Historical Costumes of England 1066 - 1956 It contains studies of costumes dating from 1066 to 1936, with information taken from various sources, including contemporary paintings, engravings, tapestries, monumental brasses, effigies, photographs and the actual dresses and was published following a chance event in which James Laver, the then head of the Print Department at the Victoria and Albert Museum, saw the bound volume of drawings lying open and recognised its potential. This book is based upon a collection of drawings that Nancy did during her student years at the Royal College of Art, where she learned book binding and hand bound these drawings to form a personal reference book.
